Graduation

In Manitoba, students have two primary pathways to earn a high school diploma: the Regular High School Diploma and the Mature Student High School Diploma.

Regular High School Diploma Requirements

To obtain the Regular High School Diploma, students must accumulate a minimum of 30 credits from Grade 9 to Grade 12, comprising both compulsory and optional courses. The compulsory courses are distributed as follows:

  • Grade 9 (10F): English Language Arts, Mathematics, Physical Education/Health Education, Science, Social Studies
  • Grade 10 (20F): English Language Arts, Mathematics, Physical Education/Health Education, Science, Geography
  • Grade 11 (30S): English Language Arts, Mathematics, Physical Education/Health Education, History of Canada
  • Grade 12 (40S): English Language Arts, Mathematics, Physical Education/Health Education

In addition to these compulsory courses, students must complete a number of optional courses to meet the 30-credit requirement. It’s important to note that individual schools or school divisions may impose additional requirements beyond the provincial minimum, such as community service or extra credits. Students who fulfill these additional criteria are eligible for both the provincial diploma and the school/school division diploma. However, those who meet only the provincial 30-credit requirement will receive the Manitoba high school diploma.

  • Must have been out of school for six months or more and long enough for their original high school cohort to have graduated.
  • Must not have previously obtained a high school diploma.
