SUMMER SESSION FAQs

 

WHERE AND WHEN DO I REGISTER FOR THE SUMMER SESSION?

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

    • Summer Session courses are FREE for CURRENT Manitoba high school students. (Fees are covered by the Manitoba Government to help bridge disruptions in student learning due to the COVID-19 challenges.)
    • Adult learners and will be assessed a fee of $210 per course.

WHAT IS A MET#?

    • Students register online at www.informnet.mb.ca and click the registration link at the top of the page.

    • Students will need to know their Manitoba Education and Training student Number (MET#) to register for an InformNet course. This is a 9-digit number that is given to each student attending school in Manitoba. It is found on a transcript or report card. It is sometimes called a provincial student number. Example: 103 ### 098.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I HAVE REGISTERED FOR CLASSES?

    • A few days before classes start, InformNet emails student log on information (username and password) along with support documentation.

CAN I TAKE A COURSE I HAVE NOT COMPLETED PREVIOUSLY?

    • Summer session courses are repeater basedstudents need to have previously taken and completed the course. It is strongly suggested students have achieved a mark of 30% or higher. InformNet summer session classes are not the full credit.

    • Full courses are offered during the school year.

    • Most summer courses consist of four modules. The workload normally consists of one or two assignments per module, discussion and/or journal postings and a module test. Some courses may also include a final exam.

    • Students work at completing a module per week. Students can and do work ahead.

    • Students will not be registered for more than 2 classes due to time restrictions and the heavy workload associated with this level of course commitment.

HOW DOES THE ONLINE CLASS WORK?

    • All online courses are facilitated by a certified teacher with experience in the subject area.

    • Students may access their course, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Brightspace learning management system contains an internal message and announcement system for teacher - student communication.

    • The course teacher will send a welcome message during the first week of classes and answer student questions within 24 hours (not including weekends).

    • Assignments and tests are marked and returned within a timely manner. In order to be successful, students need to log in consistently.

    • There is no set time, but logging in one to three hours a day, five times a week, will give the best chance for a successful course completion. InformNet summer courses are completed 100% online.

 DO I NEED AN EMAIL ADDRESS?

    • Yes, students need an active, frequently monitored email account to receive information on how to begin the course and final grade correspondence.

WHAT DO I NEED ON MY COMPUTER?

    • Internet access, an office suite with a word processor and a presentation creator (Microsoft Office, Apache Open Office (free), Google Docs are examples), PDF reader (Adobe Reader),  and a web browser (Firefox or Chrome – do not use Apple’s SAFARI)

CAN I USE MY PHONE TO COMPLETE THE COURSE?

    • Ideally students should use a computer/laptop to complete the course due to the larger screen size and better processing power.

    • If needed, there is an app called Brightspace Pulse for Android and iPhone.

HOW DOES MY SCHOOL GET NOTICE WHEN I AM DONE MY CLASS?

    • Final marks are emailed to the student’s home school principal in early August.

    • Yes. Academic integrity is a concept used to address the many aspects of validity within a student's work.

    • A student who maintains a high standard of academic integrity maintains that the work he or she turns in is authentic and true to the knowledge he or she has acquired.
